It's surprising how many people can't spell anymore nor seem to care.

Yeah but can you really blame them the public schooling system just isn't teaching anymore and some people don't speak english right either so can you really expect them to spell right?

It comes from the home not the school.

Every highly rated school is comprised of children of the well off.

Sure some great spellers come from the ghetto but come on now.

Poor spelling usually means poor paycheck as well.

My Parents are from Texas and were raised in a basically Hillbilly inviroment (especially My Dad). My Dad was The First Person in His Family to get a HS diploma. His spelling and handwriting are very good. He later went on to take some college courses to take advantage of His G.I. Bill benefits and got strait A's. I didn't do all that well in school Myself. I was always told I was lazy but later they came up with another name for it..A.D.D. My vocabulary was pitiful when I reached My late 20's so I started to carry a dictionary everywhere. When I'd read or hear a word I didn't know I'd pull out the dictionary and learn a new word. My Dad's desire not to be uneducated eventually drove Me to better Myself. So yes George, I believe Kids will (eventually) follow Their Parents example.

very true. ADD is a placebo disease for what most kids go through anyway. parents are also a big influence on the vocabulary. I see all your points pretty clearly, and agree.

I had a huge problem with My attention span, always drifting in and out of whatever was going on around Me. Quite a few years back I would be setting in the morning meetings in the Maintenance shop where I used to work and after the meetings I would have no idea what We were going to do. Someone would say "weren't You paying attention this morning?" From then on I made Myself pay attention and cured Myself of A.D.D. I purely believe it's a volitional problem. Some may differ though.

I suffer from ADD as well. I experience 2 sides of it:
1st side - I can be paying attention as hard as I can, then suddenly 10 minutes have gone by and I realize I have not heard a word that the person talking to me has said. Usually this happens when something they say triggers another thought in my head, and my imagination just runs with it.
2nd side - any sort of disorganization overwhelms me completely. I'm capable of fairly high level thinking and accomplishments; I wrote the computer program my father's company operates on, but if anything distracts me even a simple task can seem like too much.

I tried medicine, but all that did was prevent me from getting it up! Which is way more stressful that not paying attention!!!!!!

-Am I wearing a sweater?
