yeah!!!!! Reliability: 5 Here's where I'm really gonna dock the score - bigtime. I'm on Fender Pro Tube Twin #2 currently, and I say currently because when I take it by the shop for its latest checkup I could receive # 3. The first Twin was great for the 10 mintues I played it - after that it popped sending off a cloud of black smoke, a rancid odor, and the amp just died. Took it back to the dealer who immediately ordered another and gave me a crappy Ampeg Reverbrocket loaner. 4 weeks later I got my 2nd twin. I've had to play it rather quietly over the past few months because I lived in an apartment complex and the girls downstairs like to hate on my style and beat on the ceiling when I play ever-so-quietly. When I finally cranked her up good for several days in a row, I noticed significant rattling in the amp at moderately loud levels - even the Flextone II XL didn't do that, although I realize it doesn't have near as many components. This has angered me to the point of driving an hour away to get it fixed - not to brag on Matchless yet again, but these types of things happen much less Frequently with a DC-30. The Twin is pretty damned heavy to be so unreliable - you'd think they were using Class A components. Customer Support: N/A Probably an aboration?... *peaks a further sneak* Reliability: N/A OK, this is the bit which bothers me. This current Twin is my third. On purchasing the amp new, I find out that the 1st purchase has a faulty input connector and a scratchy volume pot. On turning the amp up to gigging volume, the guitar jack would shake in the socket causing the amp to arc and obviously, this made the amp ungiggable. In addition to this, there seemed to be excess tube rattle. The tubes were rattling not the cases... I couldn't believe that these issues got past Fender Quality Control. Anyway... The shop that I got it from were very good and got me another in as soon as their suppliers could (Arbiter, I think - Fender's UK distributers.) Got another Twin - this seemed alright until I tried the reverb on it. Oh dear - the things was noisy and popping all over the place. Initially I thought it could be tubes - but it wasn't. There was a fault on the circuit somewhere. So back it went again. Third Twin seems to be good. (Touching lots of wood... and keeping all fingers crossed) I don't seem to have a good track record with Fender amps. My Hotrod Deville spent most of it's life with the Amp tech and my Twin career has a somewhat tarnished beginning... but hopefully, the initial teething problems are over now. Ask anybody - I don't abuse my amps in the slightest, I keep them clean and flightcased and keep them regularly serviced... perhaps I just have a Fender curse. I'll give them 5 for reliability in the light of my experiences... but I'm hoping that the new Twin will prove me wrong. but overall,it seems like a frickin' KICK ASS AMP FROM DEATH HELLFIRE CAPABLE OF MOST HELATIOUS STEAMING ASS-FARTS OF DEATH!!!! YEAH MUTHAFUCKER -- THIS BITCH CAN DANCE, SHE AINT NO SALLY!!! |
