I've started this massive project, recording dozens of 70's prog rock albums to my hard disk and MP3ing them. I was only going to do some "essentials" (King Crimson, Jethro Tull, maybe some Van der Graaf Generator) . . . but I kept finding more and more albums in my collection . . .

How could I not record Anthony Phillips, or Gentle Giant? And the absolute badness of Eela Craig? . . . and FireBallet (even tho they are a pale Van der Graaf ripoff )!!

So I'm left trying to decide what is in, and what is out. I'm taking a very liberal approach, including the good with the bad - sometimes it's hard to tell - ELP has some mighty ponderous moments for sure. By the time it's done, I'll have MP3'd 40 albums.

and I've noticed that around 60% of these albums have cover designs by Hipgnosis - that's gotta say something . . .
