Hey ya'll - let me know what ya think of these mix-wise. This is my first round of mixing and I'm sure there'll be at least one more go round. I know we're going to bring down the backing vocals on "Red Specialized". I think I might need to get rid of some of the lower mids in the kick. Please let me know how you think the bass sounds, also.

Remember, I take criticism extremely well! Mad

sounds clean. and the hi-hats sound real smooth and don't feel abrasive. The hip-hop generation can learn much of baby carrot's mix dimension.

Bass could use boosting?...

What do I know, I don't even use headphones!

Thanks man - I have a ribbon mic I put in front of the drums that picks up cymbals so beautifully. It doesn't have a peak in the midrange like other kinds of mics so it does end up removing the harshness.

Do you mean the bass guitar or the overall bass frequencies? The bass frequencies scare me. Frown I never feel like I can hear them accurately through monitors or headphones, so I'm always ascared of things sounding boomy.

Just the bass guitar seemed a tiny bit quiet. Kick and other lows sound tight!

Listening on shitty headphones at work:
Sounds really good, very nice job. It's hard for me to make any critical listening comments because of my headphones, but the bass guitar does seem a little low. I love the sound of the kick. I'd listen to it at home, but I can't hear so well there either due to the construction and traffic going on around me.

I will try to listen again in better circumstances.

Wow bro! You did a really great job of mixing those tracks...this is indeed Carrot's finest effort.

It's nice to finally see Dave let his vocals come out more.

I there's really not much I would change. I would try to pump up the lows on the snare a bit to fill it out a little, but other than that it's really an oustanding job.

Thanks Chris and Ty! You guys have all been much help.

Ty, did you hear your Martin on "Red Specialized"? It's mixed in with the overdrive guitar.

Awesome job.

Your band sounds very experienced/polished.

Singer reminds me of Wayne Coyne from

The Flaming Lips a bit. Your band sounds

great, really does.

Thanks!

We were wondering why a CD review a few years back compared us (unfavorably, of course) to the Flaming Lips (we're fans and all, but we didn't see the connection). Now we know! Eek

Yeah, other than his voice sounding a bit like

Coyne's the band sounds nothing like the Flaming

Lips. Your band is more rock/pop and the Lips

are more . . .well. . .weird/experimental/noise.

Where the Lips used to be good. . .I can't stand

their new stuff. They stopped doing the thing

that made them cool and interesting to me. They

stopped with the weird noises and harder edged

rock sound and went all poppy. "Do you Realize"

being a good example. . .and Yoshimi did'nt sit

well with me either. Their early work is great

though. Clouds Taste Metallic being the best.

Critics = Lame

Smile

I actually like Soft Bulletin quite a bit - it's probably my favorite. After that Transmissions from the Satellite Heart. Clouds Taste Metallic leaves me sorta cold. Frown

I like some individual songs on Yoshimi, but I don't think it's a great album.

I'm exceeding my webspace, so I'll probably delete this thread or just disable linking to the songs soon.
