Dude...he cried like a prom queen with a run in her stockings and a leaky maxi when he had to lift a puny 1x12 solid state "diode master" Marshall...there's no way he could handle a Peavey Ranger. Roll Eyes

The Peavey is damn near 100 pounds.

It should have come with casters!

My one gripe. I really need to help my dad

finish the garage. . .I am practicing in a

10 by 10 square room with this 120 watt beast. Eek

so none of you rookies really has heard this beast of amp tone truth then?...and you are recommending a Peavey to me, and yet you all wonder I am filled with trepidation in these matters?
Confused

are we still diggin into the distant past about a oft hand comment made entirely in jest?

*sighs*

If you must know...the GT amps are OK. Unless you can get a really great deal on one I wouldn't bother.

They have sort of a Mesa Mark 1-ish clean tone and a very California style kind of overdrive.

My guess is that unless you like the sounds of most channel switching amps you have heard, you aren't going to like this one that much better if at all.

Not sure why you would need one...once you get your Goldtone spruced up you should be able to get all you need from your Deluxe, your Goldtone and whatever pedals you are using.

For the most part you have a really nice setup that is very versatile...the only weak link are some of your pedal choices (well...more like how you have them setup than the pedals themselves) but even those are pretty nice...and since you have said a 2x12 amp is too much for you to handle buying a third amp seems completely unnecessary.

If I were in your shoes and into the kinds of music you are into, I would simply ask myself, "What do I need gear-wise to get the sounds I want that I don't already have?"

It seems to me that outside of a new speaker (and possibly some mods) for the Goldtone and some pedal retooling you have all you need and then some to do what you like to do musically.

Honestly, if I didn't play in very different musical situations in each band I work with I could easily get by with two or three amps.

If I were you I would spend the money you are planning on spending on a new amp and get a better pedalboard with a good power supply and some quality cables to patch it all up with. Then I would patch my pedals together in a more practical arrangement.

Then with the money I had left over, I would use that for mods and speaker replacement for the Goldtone.

So there you go...you can stop wondering what you should do now. Big Grin

exceptionally Surkamp Ty.
appreciated...tho I am curious how I have my pedals set-up improperly?...I mean, mecurial pedal guru Ed Phobes set-up my chain..Confused

you aren't slaggin' Ed Phobes - keeper of the sacred VG's?Eek

..but anyways...I let the 'big HuGE surprise' I mentioned to JL pass after considering your thoughtfully helpful insights..and fyi, I have a weber blue dog alnico on the way for the Goldtone, and a dunlop DC brick power supply for my pedal also...my dm-2 now powers up, but doesnt delay anymore, so I am very annoyed about that...Frown...

I am thinking I have most of what I need...except a decent vocal mic and ultimately, a mackie mixer used and less than super costly...down the road..like a keyboard or synth with decent tone ...but, hey, my new wave cover of "Whiter Shade of Pale" can wait!Big Grin (a tender mercy for humanity???)

I may need a digital recorder soon though...I am expecting a call from Sony about 'markita' ANY DAY now...I sent them an email with a link to my site...so I am sure they will soon be in touch with me soon like...maybe today evenSmile
