I was driving home from work, under a bridge on the freeway. Suddenly it felt like the car had a flat front tire - it was all wobbly to drive. I looked up and the 70 foot cypress trees along the freeway were flopping back and forth.

I was in Campbell, very close to the epicenter.

I was doing a radio show. All the transmiters in the Bay Area were knock off cause Sutro Tower's power shortage...

KALX and I think KPOO (no shit!) were all that were on the radio for a few hours...I didn't know the extent of the damage at all, and like I had done during previous earthquakes, I took listener requests until the EBS kicked in (much later) and a local AM station seized (we volunteered..) our bandwith...

to this day, I still regret that I was playing requests like "I feel the earth move" and "earthquake" and bunches of others about death and catastrophe...only upon coming home and seeing the television did I really note how bad it was...and felt some terrible guilt, tho it was not justified by any of my unknowing acts...at home, I just kept imagining someone under a collapsed freeway dying while listening to my flippant, humorous cracks and 'quake' related songs...
