This might sound stupid but seeing the Who perform that at the VH1 concert I actually felt that things are like gonna be ok. It was just fucking awesome that these 3 old fossils could rock any kid band of the stage at almost 60yrs old.....yes we wont get fooled again.......

It might have been the same concert- the one Mc Cartny put together? 'Yesterday' was eerily moving----- great songs with real lyrics are hard to beat, a powerful song with a great riff will still hit home even when crooned by dinosaurs, I still think Townsend is the best living 'rawk' lyricist......

And the crazy thing is it was just a shadow of what The Who once were. When they WEREN'T 60 year old men, but angry young men. Propelled by Kieth Moon, taking their listners on new, vital Amazing Journey-s. At the cutting edge of developing rock music as art, use of technology, hotel room trashing, stage destruction, volume, feedback - but rock steady in their timing and full of dynamics, with moments of great beauty, power and subtlety.

But it's very cool they and their songs still have some substantial power to move an audience. I hope I'm vital and kicking a bit of ass when I get old. How's that for a new anthem!

I have thought the Lyric to My Generation should be " Hope I LIVE before I get old "---Blow up your TV--------- Im reading up on the American Revolution and it seems sort of similar to the Social conditions ofthe sixties with so much up heaval and undirected change----- tis as important to have an urgent message as an urgent listener ..............

Donner - "Hope I LIVE before I get old" - I really like that. One to really live by. Also, I agree, TV sucks years of actual living out of many, many people's lives. I can't preach too much though, since I've ended up substituting the internet for TV time. Still, the ol' brain gets a LITTLE more exercise.

I was horrified to learn of the plane crash in Queens today. Continued thoughts and prayers for the good people of New York. Hang in there.

Donner, I recently fiished a book entitled "Instruments Of Desire - The Electric Guitar and the Shaping of Musical Experience" by Steve Waksman. A bit wordy, but an interesting perspective on the impact of our instrument on social and cultural change, as well as it's role in breaking down racial and sexual boundaries; Somewhat in line with your analogy.

I've never seen the Who, but would cite Mr. Townshend as one of my all-time favorite rock n' roll rhythm guitarists. About five years ago, I was given a ticket to a Roger Daltrey show as a present from a buddy. My pre-conceived notion was that I would witness some ol' geezer stumble through a bunch of old anthems. My plan was to politely
clap after each tune. Not even close. Roger came out ready to do business. He was cut, ripped, and muscled like a nineteen year old. His performance was accurate and delivered with conviction. All the trademark Daltrey screams were dead on, and the band rocked with reckless abandon.
And get this:
The show was in an outdoor ampitheatre and storm clouds had been brewing all night, but we had been spared rain. Rog' and co. took a quick break and came back out for an encore. Within the first few bars, as if on cue, the Heavens unleashed a torrential downpour on all below. There was an overhead awning protecting the band, but Roger seemed oblivious to the connection between water and electricity (???!!!). He just stood there, shirtless, drenched in rain and sweat, swinging the mic around, shaking that lion's mane o' hair like a dog after a bath, singing his ever lovin' ass off. The song was "Love Rain O'er Me". True Rock God Stuff. My buddies and I left the show, drenched and renewed, remembering what Rock n' Roll is all about.
Jeff Beck is fifty seven years old. He rewrites the book every time he picks up a Fender Stratocaster.
Ol' Corleone turns forty one later this week, and continues to stalk the Earth. I can honestly say that my love affair and child-like curiousity for our instrument has never been greater.

Old Rockers never die.
They just smell that way.

Hey Bro- I turned 41 3 months ago-welcome,,, it was strange in that Im not 40 anymore Im 'fortysomething'......one thing I dig about Daltry is he still runs a farm in England- that will keep you in shape!!! I think he and Joe Perry should put together a rockers Wrestling Duo! I think all those guys 'lived' before they got old--- makes 'old' alot more bearable..........

42 here. I saw a show on TV with Daltrey as the main singer, with an orchestra & a rock band. Alice Cooper did a duet with Daltrey & at one point Alice gave his mic a mini twirl to make Roger laugh. I read somewhere that Roger used to be a bully in school, & threatened to beat up Pete if he didn't give him guitar lessons, or something like that.

Yeah- Daltry comes by his stage presence honestly- I think he was a grave digger, something like that before they took off, real hardworking cocksure kind of guy---my favorite story of their fights was Pete and Roger arguing about a song, and Pete punched Roger,, then the interviewer goes-' So Roger what did you do then" and he answers " Well Petes the best writer Ive ever met, but he shouldnt 've hit me--- I broke his f***in jaw"...... Early Eddie Vedder is about the only person I ever saw that was close- Plant and Stewart were a little too effeminate and Rose was a little too crazed .... I think Daltrey is still the winner in a 12 greatest frontman wrestle royale.......

I'm sure Pete would have liked that!! He was probably waiting around for the day when he would get a taste of Rogers fluids.
