when I playback recorded tracks in it, they sound 'okay'(setting aside that they ARE my noises..).
play the same .wav in MS Media Player and they have some distortion and sound worse...same .wav..both with flat EQ at play mode... this is even more the case with mp3 conversions... ???..am I to record my songs such that they will sound okay in MS Media Player? (which alot of folks use, but I think it is a TERRIBLe hunk a software crap...) or do I continue recording with CE2 and what is...just is?...these problems dont seem to happen NEARLY so much in Winamp... I dont know if I am recording 'improperly' or am just...dealin' with MS horse shit software? anyone alive to help? *regards cool new blue translucent Fender pic* |

ask Ty, he's the new expert
anyway . . . are you mixing down multiple tracks? if so, how (by "Save Mixdown As..." or by "mix Down to Empty track?") you may be getting some clipping in your mixdown, if the levels are too hot. push F10 and see if your meters show clipping. and what are you using to rip to MP3? If you're doing it right out of Cool Edit, check the bit rate. I ripped one this morning and the default is set at 96kbps ------------------------------- The eyes are yours, but you don't own the view |

Is Cool Edit 2 freeware/shareware or something? I'd like to use it just to be knowledgable about it... I have n-tracks on my computer here for the same reason. You guys use that?
I wonder what mp3 encoding alorithm they are using. |

Reading this again not drunk I think clipping sounds pretty plausible. Maybe look at the .wav graphically and see if it looks clipped or squared off at the top.

Oak,
I sometimes have the same problem. You're recording too hot. Try decreasing the indivdual track volume before you mix to about -10db. Then mix down again. It should help. You can change the bitrate after the mixdown is complete. The track appears in the individual file edit mode. Then when you "save as" you'll see a little fader in the bottom right of your save as prompt box. You can change bitrate there. If that doesn't work, you'll have to re-record. When you start a new session, you have to pick "new session" then you can change the bitrate there too. I think. |
