Very few guitarists can make a solo interesting.

Actually, if a band is SOLID (ie, not noticably bad), and the guitarist can pull out some tasteful, attention grabbing/MUSICAL/somewhat flashy solos, it can definitely be enough to wow the croud..

I'm gonna go ahead and agree with this. The ability to speak on stage in between songs in a way that is not awkward and is *gasp* entertaining is, I think, important. At least as important as good liner notes. My band always said the dumbest shit. Most of the time. We had a few gems, but mostly it was the guitar player mumbling a few things. I'm always in the back, screaming funny things into the high hat mic, but nobody hears. Sometimes I see a band where there are two or three people and they talk over eachother, look awkward... I want to cringe when I see that. I mean, even having planned out stuff to say is a good idea sometimes. At least have some plan as to how the inbetween songs go. If you wanna just rock one song and then another, cool. Just plan for it. A show is more than just nailing the songs.

Ty never talks onstage...his glasses get somewhat foggy, and he's usually searching for his pick on the stage floor...but damn, the man can PLAY!!!
