just wondering how he made the weird sound on "sleep now in the fire" where it sounds nothing like a guitar. i cant describe it but if you;ve heard the cd, you'lll know it.

I hear he soldered his strings to his pickups therefore releasing an electric charge never seen in the music industry. He then was considered the greatest guitar hero ever to grace the earth.

why the heck are you guys so mad at him?I did not refer to him as being good or anything like that. i heard that song on the radio and just wanted to know how he did it. it puzzled me. and since this place had a forum for that stuff i asked.

but seriously, it sounds like he was using the allen wrench trick he used on the second album.

Tom morello uses distortion from his Marshall stack, his homemade
Arm The Homeless Axe
and a Whammy pedal. On the verse he plays
a note harmonized a 2nd(whole step) below it
and then plays it an octave up occasionally(listen to the record.)
On the solo he sits next to his amp to generate feedback then manipulates it with
his toggle switch( on/off type stuff) and bends the pitch with his Floyd Rose whammy bar. That is how he did it and I know for a fact after reading several interviews. The
rest is just the riff. Nothing mysterious there. Oh yeah, the talking at the end is a Korean radio station picked up by a distortion pedal, not a digital sample.

yeah, i think my 4 year old cousin was doing that when I left my amp on last week. it's too bad I didn't get a chance to record it, he would've gotten a record deal.

I know this is an old thread, but I got a kick out of the Tom Morello comments. I also think he plays too much simple, boring crap. Plus he gets praised for it. He can't play or compose guitar solos, so he just makes weird noises that lack any kind of imagination. I can't beleive that he is in so many guitar magazines. I thought his schtick would end in Audioslave, but it didn't. I like their songs a lot better than Rage though.
