How did Townsend get that screaming tone, particularly during segments of the "Tommy" medley?
I heard he had some type of pedal between the SG and Hiwatts.
Anyone know for sure?

Yes, it's a Superfuzz. I could tell as soon as I heard him kick it on. I love that pedal.

Recently, in my home town (Worcester MA) we've put together what we call the Green Street Music Series (www.luckydogmusic.com) which has a backup band put together of local original musicians to play four or five hours of music of a particular artist. Then we invite up 35 different singers from the local scene to do some of the songs.

The last one we did was The Who, and set 2 was the Live at Leeds version of Tommy....superfuzz and all. It was a blast. This Saturday we're doing Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen and I get to play baritone guitar for Born to Run and electric sitar for Don't Come Around Here No More. Woo hoo!
