N00b question...What is being done in the intro/verse to Thrice's "Stare at the Sun?" Ive been pondering over it for what seems forever, and can't for the life of me figure it out.

Sounds to me like two tracks of ebowed guitar run through a short delay and/or reverb, THEN into a distorted amp.

The ebow gives you that sustain, the reverb/delay BEFORE the distortion gives you that noisy bit when you change the notes.

It's also possible that the whole thing might have been reamped at mixdown as well.

It could possibly be looped in Protools as well... create it once, paste...paste...paste.
