hello everyone,

im new to this forum so i apologize for my first post being a thread..

i have to take a decision fast on a distortion pedal (either rat vintage, or rat II or something else that might be sugested here..), im looking for a very specific sound and will buy it very soon. But i dont really know where to go here..im looking for that etheral distortion/wall of sound/crunch/endless sustain present in Red House Painters first records and sort of in Loveless (by MBV), and of course, many other bands to some extent..

i will be using this in conjunction with an Electro Harmonix memory man into a fender hotrod deluxe (i cant crank it..livin in an apartment)..from a Fender Jazzmaster (and ocasionally an Epiphone Sheraton II)

i know Shields used a Shredmaster, but its not made anymore...i know nothing of Mark Kozelek's setup except for the guitars he uses..i know the Rat 2 is used a lot in shoegazing/ambience/etheral bands but im wondering if this is, indeed, the right choice...

this really seems the right forum to find out about this. I apreciate any help anyone can give me, many thanks in advance!

honestly, i've gotten sounds pretty close to MBV using a jazzmaster into a hot cake and a holier grail into an ac30. i know he used ac30s a lot when recording loveless. unfortunately, i don't think it'll work like that into your fender. i would say give a keeley modded rat a try.

ps-think about an attenuator so you can crank your amp up without pissing off your neighbors.
