In my book Mike Landau is the true master of tone!
On "Why you lie" (1 st track/Boner by Raging Honkies)there´s a lovely tone when the 2:nd guitar comes in (right channel, 44 secs into he song when he sings: "cry and cry my friend"....."lie and lie again")

Could be a cranked Marshall, but there´s some kind of (slight) modulation there as well...
The Arion SCH-1 maybe?

He´s got a similiar tone on "Push Push" from Burning Waters "Abbandonato".
