What effect is used to make the guitar "stutter" like this? Is it just a well-placed and timed tremolo effect, or is it a different effect altogether? I am somewhat able to recreate this using a deep square wave tremolo but it does not sound 100% spot on.
Thanks, I never would have thought of that. How do you strum the notes then? Do you just rely on the pressure of your fingers hitting the fretboard to make the notes come out?
i've never heard the song you're talking about, but whenever i am performing the "stutter" effect by toggling my pickups and i need to continuously change chords i always hammered them on. as long as you hammer hard and clean the notes should sustain enough to get the desired effect. again, i don't know exactly what you're looking for, but i think that's what you mean.
Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum has a synth sounding part that is a toggle switch cycled while bending down a double stop, a real clever use of the teqnique.
