Dumble, TwoRock or Fender amps.
Fender Strat guitars.

He has one of the best tones to come out of pop music since SRV in my opinion, if he was anybit pop. And what a pit it is that John loves Stevie.

He uses a SRV signiture strat with a cool tortous shell pick gaurd for alot of stuff (crossroads festival, and my favorite "neon" from the live CD Any given thursday.)

He uses 2 Two Rock amps and a modded Fender Tone King.

this is a great article/interview about him, Two Rock, and other Dumbleish tones.

Keep in mind he uses the '4th' position on the PU selector alot, the neck-middle quack, like SRV used on Lenny and Hendrix on The Wind Crys Marry.

I get a great tone to rival (in my opinion) his with a Custom Shop 60's strat and a Mesa Lone Star, great amp, awsome guitar.

but remember it is all in the fingers!

Actually, Neon is not a Strat. Defintely not on Any given Thursday(I have the DVD) He's playing the same kind of guitar that you see on the cover of Room for Squares. One of my favorite tunes.

ive seen in the 2005 fender catalog that he (at least endourses) fender vibrokings, do you know if he uses one on stage? but nothing special really, any clean fender amp with a good strat will get you there

when i pick up a strat i love the 4th position as well, im in love with the lone star boogies(i cant afford one tho) i pluged a srv strat with a ts9 into one once...absolutely beautiful.

not original LLC, the other one! you dig? dont forget to pet my constipated duck.

He's used Vibrokings on stage in the past, usually with the add-on cabinet.

Right now on his John Mayer Trio tour, however, he's got a '64 Vibroverb 1x15, a Two Rock Custom Reverb head, a Dumble Overdrive Special head, and two two rock cabs along with a Victoria Reverberato head.

(edit: sorry, i said '65 vibrolux instead of '64 vibroverb)
