Does anyone know what John Scofield uses to get that interesting wide chorus / vibey sound? And if it's one of those "No Longer Available" units, does anyone use anything newer that gets that sound?
I've no idea what John's using currently. He got way up into Tom Morello and cool, bizarre noises for a while, so perhaps he's employing the 'detune' function on a Digitech Whammy pedal, which I think he does use, although I'm not certain for how much of the 'chorus' sounds that you describe. I honestly don't know.
I'm reasonably certain that John's pedal of choice over the years has been an Ibanez CS-9. The little lavendar-colored metal box. To quote klasaine, the box has sort of a metallic, "clangy" quality. The Analog Man Clone has similiar character, and is certainly more versatile. However, nothing I've played sounds quite like the quirky little purple Ibanez, for that sound.

I know he's used the aforementioned CS-9 (did I actually say "clangy"? - it is). Also the flanger version of that series. The yellow FL-9 (?) and the Whammy pedal on "de-tune" mode. He maxes out the depth and rate to get that really wild out of tune waver.
