Anybody know what the Weezer guys use? (what type of fuzz?) (How they get that grinding lead tone)?

In the Blue Album-era Rivers used an original Mesa Engineering head, often referred to as the MkI. I can't remember what Brian used, but I remember a Marshall SL-X being thrown in the mix at some point. And I think DSL's made an appearance around/after Pinkerton (2nd major album). I lost track of their different amp changes, but I do know that they recently went to POD rigs. (Line 6 POD, rackmount versions I do believe).
Search the web man, there is great info on these guys from their guitar tech.

Everything you wanted to know about Weezer's gear and then some. Even goes through pre-Blue stuff. Smile
Has POD settings for both Rivers and Brian, pictures of their pedalboards, guitars, and amps. Rivers' guitars evidently have some unique wiring and the addition of something called Black Ice (a passive overdrive module that is wired to the volume pot). That supposedly contributes to much of the sound.
