Sounds like a Les Paul into a Marshall amp
cranked. Could this be a Treble booster or Dallas Rangemaster giving the cutting edge distortion? Thanks if anyone knows anything. |

The old McCartney album had him pictured with a Firebird if I remember right. Can't remember if it had P90s or min-buckers though.
On the "Wings Over America" tour, Jimmy McColough (sp?) played an SG into a Fender head (dual showmans maybe?) into Marshall cabs. If I rember righ there were two full stacks behind Jimmy and Denny Lane. June 10th, 1976, Cow Palace, San Fransisco Ca... Is it you or the equipment? |

Maybe I'm Amazed.... sounds just like the solo in some earlier Beatles stuff (McCartney played guitar on a lot of the Beatles stuff) so investigate that. Maybe I'm thinking Taxman or something like that.... You'll find the tone there somewhere.

I'm speaking specifically of Jimmy McColloughs live tone. The Live version you hear on the radio sometimes. I never owned a Treble booster /Rangemaster and was wondering if this is the effect . The tail end of the notes have this biting feedback to them that to me just don't sound like straight guitar amd amp only.

quote: Jimmy definitely played an SG when I saw them at the Cow Palace - that was the Wings Over America tour that the album came from. It was definitely Fender heads into Marshall cabinets as well. As for pedals, I have no clue. Is it you or the equipment? |
