What does everybody think about the new Pro Tube Twin Fender amp? I played one for a bit the other day, and A/B 'ed the 50 watt version with the 100 watt 65' Twin Reverb Reissue. The cleans were comparable. I really liked both of them. The Distorted channel on the Pro was actually really nice too. Not "high gain" but pretty heavy but still sounded good with full chords. Only complaint was with the reverb, but it was still decent.

I actually liked the amp so much that I'm think about buying one (the 100 watt version though). My question to y'all is: should I? Is there an equivalent amp in the same price range that I should look at? Is there some terrible flaw with the amp that I don't know about yet? I had heard that the output only works with 4 ohms cabinets, but I'm not sure if it's true. That would be a bad thing. I have a 4x12 loaded with greenbacks that I think would sound killer with the amp. If I couldn't use it, that would be disappointing. Anyway, I thought you guys might be able to help me out. Thanks.

Hey AJ. I haven't heard these amps nor have I heard anyone comment on them. However I was at a family reunion in Aug. '02 and saw a band called the Texas Soul Band playing there. There guitar player was playing a Rivera combo playing blues and blues rock. He was playing a Strat and was getting the fattest tones You could imaging. It sounded great! I would check them out as they can be in the same price range and probably have better tone.

I have one for nearly over a year or so and I love it. It is the most effect friendly amp you can get new these days. The clean channel is wonderful and the reverb on the Twin is lush once you change out the tube for it wuth a better quality one.

i figured i should update everybody on this tone quest. the amp was actually for the singer in my band, and he stumbled upon a rivera rake half stack for a great price. bought it right away. so far it hasn't let him down at all. the clean channel is great, not exactly the twin, but great in a different way. the dirty channell is really full. the only downside is that this amp doesn't mask anything, and that really isn't a downside is it? it'll just make him get better. once he gets a hold of a good reverb (it's the head without reverb) it'll be gold. i myself just sold my vox valvetronics combo and am saving for something new. preferably something with a real tube power amp. modelliong just wasn't quite the same. thinking about a bogner, but i'm not sure yet. i'm going to post a new thread for advice on it actually. anyway, thanks. good day.

i had the "custom" vibrolux re-issue for a bit, it was ok...nice for blues, breaks up well, but at a lower volume than i liked, so i sold it. i have an old BF vibrolux, and it obvioulsy blows it away...doesnt break up as easy too...but my main amp is a 61' concert....great amp. well, for me anyway.

One of my many amps is the Pro Series Concert Reverb (one year old), and it is sweet. No, it's not as fat as my Dr. Z, not as nasty as my Mesa, or not as funky as my old Seymor Duncan 2X12-100 watt, but it is a very, very good overall amp. I think they tried to do the right thing and did pretty well. It has 4X10s and 2 channels. It is 50 watts of pure tube power and will blow away many 100 watters I've heard. The clean channel is classic super Reverb with just a little more bottom. The dirty channel is pretty nice up to around 3 on the gain, then starts to get a little nasty. I put a 12 AY7 in that channel and it broke up a little differently, but then went back to the 12 AT7 tube. The best thing is the 1/4 power switch. You can flip that switch, turn in on, warm up the tubes and really overdrive the 12 watts though the 4/10s and get some great sounds without blowing the doors off of most clubs or studios. At the highest levels on 12 watts, you can really get close to a '59 bassman sound--very responsive to your touch.

The Fender guys really built this well with a deep cab, professional casters and a really solid overall amp. I know that they build some crappy stuff now and then but this is really a good amp---not cheap and not light--heavy as hell, but good all around and not without it's merit. When you want that classic Fender sound with the tube driven reverb and/or classic tremelo--you got it. And the 1/4 power is really a very nice and useful tool for that other great sound the old bassman amps had.
