I will be the first to add some comments on the newest member of my family, the Route 66 in red. I special ordered it and it sat at Daves Guitar where I'm told "nothing else was cool after it arrived". I choose this after a lot of input from this user group and one of my main desires was compatibility with my pedals. It didnt disappoint. Note that prior, I owned a Carman Ghia which would be great but it was a little short on head room. My advice, save your money and start with a great amp - then supplement with pedals.
hey atm- i too got my dr z ( a carmen ghia) from daves music in lacrosse. wis, that store is amazing- if you get the chance, talk to casey from there, he's a super cool guy. zero sales pressure. anyways, my plan is to get a rt. 66 sometime this upcoming spring- my carmen is mainly a recording amp, which it excells at for what tones i want, but as you and others have said- it's nice to have a bit more headroom, hence the higher powered 66. anyways.... just thought i'd say hello and im glad you dig your amp! take care, travis

Just picked up a "barely" used Mazerati head in black tolex. Haven't gigged with it yet, I just bought it yesterday, but it sounds god-like in the house. I've been wanting one of these for a long time and at $700.00 I finally had the balls to "pull the trigger". Anybody else in here use one of these 2 knob baby's?

mike zaite builds great amps & is a true prince! i bought my maz-38 invasion from him in 1995.& it still sounds incredible.i bought a carmen-ghia head from him in'97.he also built me for it,his first 1x12 cab.it is a closed back,w/ a prototype weber/dr.z silver-vox copy 12" speaker.there was( still is?)a picture of it on his web-site.the head & cab are blonde tolex W/ oxblood grills.the picture showed the baby-stack in front of an unfinished 4x12 cab.i only live 3&1/2hours from cleveland,so i drove there to p/u the ghia&cab, & he changed the metal grillcover from my invasion to a fabric one.looked much nicer. & he was a great host.he deserves the business & praise.i would love to get either a z-28 or a route-66. anybody w/ a ghia should try it through a 15" open-back speaker cab.you won't believe your ears. try it & let me know what you think.

This is what I want. A red Route 66. It's what I use in the studio. I have a Gibson GA-30RVS; which is sweet..but doesnt have quite the mojo that the 66 has. Looking to trade (+$$) if anyone knows someone. (sigh..lol) Thanks!

A CLOSE FRIEND OF MINE WHO DOES SOUND FOR MAJOR TOUR GROUPS HAS HEARD THEM ALL VHT/PITBULL,BOGNER,BOOGIE,MARSHALL,CARR,TONE KING AND THE LIKE,SAYS THE Z STUFF SOUNDS THIN? AND THE EL84 IS KNOWN FOR MISBEHAVING
and...el-84's misbehave because they are notoriously homosexual tubes.yours will probably behave because you will give them an old-school proper christian biasing. i have heard that kt88's are very upstanding & decent, & never misbehave.

I played a friends Maz 18 (with reverb) head yesterday through a homemade 2x12 cabinet and all I can say is wow. I used his LP straight inyo the Maz, no effects and I was blown away by the tone. It was tight, focused and had a nice chimmey crunch. I think I need one. I thought it had qualities of Vox, Fender and Marshall. I though I was done when I got an Ac-30, but I guess not.
