Grand Master |
i just sold my vox ad120vt modeller to a friend for $950, and i need a new amp pronto. my crate 120w solid state head ain't gonna cut it and there are shows on the horizon. i grew really fond of the vox clean models in the valvetronics, and loved the versatility of the amp and its foot controller, but i want a real tube amp feel and it wasn't quite giving me that.
friday i'm driving down to music arts enterprises in fort lauderdale to try out a slew of expensive amps (bogners, dr. z, marshalls, bad cats, soldanos) and i'll pop in an update on how that went sometime this weekend. i have to say though, i'm leaning towards the bogner shiva already. i've played an ecstasy and fallen in love with it, but i'm not sure i want to spend that much and it's been a couple of years since i played it anyway. does anybody know of any other amps (preferably heads) with a distortion that "feels" like a bogner's? i guess it's the compression that i like, though i'm not certain. i haven't ever been good at explaining things in guitar jive, but i want a distortion sound that is pretty...saturated is i guess the word i'm looking for. one that reacts really well to my palm mutes, and doesn't fart out. not necessarily extremely gainy, but with alot of sustain, and that makes it easy to do pinch harmonics. i play a 90s rock rythm and an 80s metal sort of lead. i also want a clean that's reminiscent of a vox ac 30. it doesn't have to be exact, i just want it to "feel" like that. not alot of clean lead, just soft picking parts and some strumming. reverb and an effects loop would be nice too. has anoyone played/heard a mako, a randall/egnator module amp, or anything else that might be up my alley? any suggestions would appreciated greatly. and for now, let's pretend that money isn't an issue. i just want to try as many amps as i can. thank you very much and god bless. oh, also, are there any suggestions for a delay pedal with a tap tempo that would perform like the vox's did? i also need a volume pedal. i'm going for that "orchestral" effect that you get with a soft volume increase and long delay, and a nice delay for lead. what is a good volume pedal? as you may have gathered, i'm not exactly an equipment veteran, so i appreciate any help i can get. thanks again. |
