Here's my initial review of the ZVex Nano Head:
t's great. I really love it. Through my Little Lanilei Rotary Wave Speaker: eerie overdriven warbles beautiful 'old' quality. Through my Bogner 2x12: OH MY GOD! What amazing amp distortion! No (lack of) volume issues, to be sure. The various switches are really useful, they're not 'corrective'; they really let you shape the sound. I guess Marshall overdrive is the closest touch point, but it's a much more classic sound than most Marshalls you find out there. It's a very rich and textured distortion. Beautiful low volume feedback, which is lovely, and something I'll use a lot. Internal Speaker: It's plastic. It's tiny. And that's how it sounds. But useful nonetheless. One cool thing that I used to do with my little Marshall (you know the little plastic pieces of poop) is crank it and hold the speaker right up to the guitar around the pickups and get a nice little feedback thing, thin and reedy... Anyway, the Nano does this beautifully and sounds a far sight better. A little discovery was that touching the fan yields wicked dive bomb, racecar doppler kind of sounds that will get some mic time. |

quote:Well, hard to say... Loud enough for small venues or mic'ed amps. Again, if it's at all loud, it's some stage of overdriven/distorted. I would say it's ideal for recording, far more than for live play. It's a good personal practice amp, because the clean tone is loud enough through the 2x12 for some messing around, but not enough for a jamming situation. I expect to use it overdriven for recording almost exclusively. For home recording, imagine the sound of a Marshall loud enough to get complaints from around the block, but quiet enough to play all night. I hope this helps. I can't recommend it highly enough for what it does. |

I have the little Nano head also, it's plenty loud through a 4x12 and I hvea little box with two 8's in it that sounds remarkably good too.
But the tone Here is a good demo of it: http://www.prosoundcommunications.com/mov/MT/nano.mov I do believe those pickups he is using are Kinman AvN blues. Sweet sounding demo. "Where are we going? And why am I in this handbasket?" |
