What are the tonal and playing differences in a 24 scale vs a 25 scale guitar...
Looking for opinion based on the scale lenght here, there's manufacturers that build 24.75 and 25.5 scale lenght guitars, some actually build both. So what's in an inch? |

"Long-scale guitars have tighter strings, a stiffer action, frets that are farther apart (requiring a longer reach), and more power - particularly in the bass strings- than guitars with shorter scales..."
From "How to make your electric guitar play great" by Dan Erlewine. Also, the shorter the scale, the easier it is to bend, although you do sacrifice some power, especially in the bass strings. i guess that depending on the size of your hands, and the techniques you use, you may prefer one or the other (or both). ![]() |

To add shorter scales have a slacker tension and tend to sound more percussive than longer scaleswhich tend to be more tense and bell like.
Detune a strat to C# and you will hear what I mean. Craig check out my site Guitar From The Green goo for my gear and music. |
