I want to merge two pedals. I own a Tube Works 901 and a Barber Direct Drive SS, both of which have strong points. The best part of the 901 is when run with a 12AU7, its breakup is exactly what I`m after. The down side is the lousy tone controls. The best part about the DDSS is the tweakability, but the breakup is solid state, and not 100% what I want. SO, where could I find someone knowlegable enough to take the transformer and tube (and whatever else) from the 901 and pair it with everything in the DDSS Except the clipping section?

Have you tried a Chandler Tube Driver?? That might be more along your lines. It is tube distortion and the tone controls are very nice.
It is an aggressive pedal.

As far as merging your 2 pedals, thats a good idea. Why don't you try getting a hold of Dave Barber. He is a cool guy and would more than likely work with you to get the tone that you want.

Best of luck~!!
