Hi folks. This is my first post in here, and it's a debate question. How relevant is the Strat V Les Paul debate in this age of myriad choices for the player?
Right up to the 70's there were few noteable manufacturers other than Gibson or Fender (Gretsch and Rickenbacker, for example) , but now there are quite literally hundreds of well known brands on the market, and , arguably, some actually make better instruments. I personally own neither Fender or Gibson but have played a number of them in my 20+ years playing. So that's the question... The relevance of the "versus" debate. Thanks people )

True on all points ( I have a lot of non - Fender and Gibson guitars ) but , they are the standard by which we judge all others .

Ditto to klasaine's point about "standards".
There's little doubt that Suhr, Sadowsky, Anderson, and other notables make superior instruments. I applaud the meticulous efforts and results of these fine craftsmen.
For whatever reasons, I seem to get more mileage out of "Fords" and "Chevys" than I do with "Lamborghinis" and "Ferraris".
The next guy will be just the opposite... That's what makes it go 'round, I reckon.
Hope you enjoy the forum !

What about the fact that they are two completely different guitars in the first place? They are about as far on opposite sides of the spectrum as you can get, as far as guitars go.
