What I have found is that an SG with the right pu's and maybe a few coil taps surpassess both. Just stick some good fralins in it, not those new, weak, gibson pu's. Sg has enough twang and still can get that bloody roar, when you choose LP or strat you choose for one or the other. Sg covers that gap and then some between the two

I've owned an SG for nearly 20 years and I'm only now reading in the mags and reading in the forums what I've known all along...these things are monster tone generaters and can easily surpass both the Strat and LP.
They are also one of the most recognizable looking and sounding guitars out there.

Cheers

So, there is a great deal on the SG Classic in Ebony Stain at www.americanmusicsupply.com - $599 with gig bag - 60% off list. I heard about it on the FDP yesterday - they're getting scooped up pretty quickly...

I have a 1984 Yamaha SBG1000 (Santana model) that has push-pots on the tones that split the humbuckers into single-coils. Best of both worlds in one guitar! Same heft as my 78 LP Custom, and killer bat-wing style.

I've had an SG Custom since 1969. It was my main axe for years. I now also have the SG Supreme as a compliment to it. The thing that attracted me to SG's in the first place (other than the very cool looks) was that it was one of the few guitars available (at least back in the '60's) that one could have access to all frets on the neck. I still use the '69 off and on today. I don't play it as much as I used to only so I don't wear the thing out. That's why I picked up a '99 Supreme, as a replacement.
I love my SG's!

Oh, by the way, you SG freaks may want to check out this website:
