I had a 78 cherry sunburst deluxe and sold it. I have 2 Fender strats and I'm hanging onto these. They are much more flexible in my opinion. Better for blues, sweeter clean tones, and capable of big rock sounds. Swap out the stock pickups and bye bye noise! 5 positions for pu combinations instead of 3. Vibrato bar. Lighter on the back.

Pauls sustain forever and can get enormous crunch. But is that worth paying so much more for? Nah.

the problem was you had a Les Paul - Deluxe - are those made anymore?

Deluxe are great guitars, everybit as good as standards or customs IMO, but strats take the cake.
