Hey folks! My first post here so I probably should say Hi for starters. So, hi!
Anyway, on to the issue at hand. I have an early 90's block logo MXR Phase 90 that I've owned since new. I hadn't used it much in the last few years, but have recently brought it out of retirement. I've noticed when the effect is switched on that it's very quiet in output...meaning the volume of the signal is practically cut in half than when it's not on. It's a bit different than the later/current Phase 90's in that the PCB is separate from the switch, pot, jacks, et cetera and apparently doesn't have the R28 cap that many folks remove/mod. Does anybody here have any clue about these pedals or what may be wrong with it? I've searched everywhere and only found one other mention of a P90 like this & I e-mailed Dunlop, but they never responded. What little info I found hinted that it may be designed like the coveted original Script Logo models. Here's a pic of it for reference: http://community.webshots.com/photo/473711002/2134389470075617209ONfRPt I can't visibly see anything amiss so I'm not sure where to start. Any help will be greatly appreciated. -Ben |

Thanks for the tips Rob. I figured it might have something to do with the pot or switch, but I'm not familiar enough with electronics to be sure. I don't use it enough to spend a lot of effort or money on it right now so I guess it can wait. But it's still fun to fiddle around with new sounds...thus the reason I seem to spend so much time browsing the inventory here.

Both the pot and the switch should be easy and cheap to replace if you have basic soldering skills. Steve at Small Bear Electronics can sell you what you need....either diagram it out before starting or just move the wires one by one. From what you've said it's an early Block logo and should sound great.
Or, I may be interested in buying it from you as-is, let me know at pauldig at comcast dot net |
