I may be overlooking this but, what is the purpose of the four tuners on the new USA Strats to be shorter?

Sperzals are like that too. It's to get a better string angle over the nut so you don't need string trees. The D, G, B & highE strings go to the tuners at a sharper downward angle that way.

Good point thanks. I was uncomfortable winding the strings on there with not much space to get as many wraps on the posts as I usually like. I took the standard tuners off my old Strat and put them on the new one. Works fine, stays in tune great. I don't use the wiggle stick so, that's where it might come in handy to have those tuners if I did.
