I have dead one and so do a few friends , anyone know if there are common faults ? these are older units with footswitch off of the board

Any hints where to start tracing ?

the circuit board is wrapped in foam and the foam rots, turning the foam into a goo paste. when this goo gets on the circuit board it corrodes the circuit tracks and solder connections.
it can be fixed by removing all the contamination (i use denatured alcohol) re soldering or repairing the damaged, corroded connections. I have fixed many of them but it takes some patience.
so yes it is fixable by a skilled person.
