Hi all. I'm brand new to this forum and need some help. My Spin Acher, which is a "light activated tremelo/leslie sim pedal" is making a ticking noise through my amp which makes it pretty unusable for recording. I opened the pedal up and it's a mass of wires all over the place. I don't even know where to start in terms of what might be wrong. Any ideas?

Thanks very much! I look forward to contributing to this forum.

Hey ZZZ,
Welcome to the party! I had a Spin Acher last year. The tone and effect of the pedal was very good, but I found that it "ticked" too. You need to try to move it around on your board--placement of the pedal will help eliminate this problem. If I remember right, I had to put it first in line BEFORE my Fuzzes and Overdrives. I kept the Spin Acher for a while, but eventually sold it and got a Demeter Tremulator--it's more "vintage" sounding and suits my player better. Good luck!

Willie,
Thanx for your kind welcome...
I'll try placing the pedal earlier in my chain as you advised. However, I get the ticking when I plug in guitar > spin acher > amp as well. The wiring is such as mess inside, I wonder if some might causing the tick. It's very frustrating. Anything to recommend regarding the wiring?

Hey Zman!

Nope, sorry, I didn't get into the wiring of it and I'm the Festus of electronics Big Grin. My placing it in the first of my chain eliminated the problem, so I did not get into the guts of the pedal. You *might* want to try contacting Jacques directly if you are sold on the pedal and definently want to use it in your setup. I had NO problem with the tone/effect of it, in fact, it gave a KILLER mild/slight/fat singing overdrive when turned up. I just needed something a little less temermental.

He's fairly accessible--try his website at www.ts808.com His email is jacques@ts808.com

Sorry for your frustration--maybe he can help! Smile

Willie-b,
I put the Spin Acher before my ODs and voilla, as you said, no more ticking. Interesting though, it is after my compressor , and with the compressor on, it ticks. With comp off, no tick. So when I use it, I'll just click the Tone Press off. Not sure why Spin Acher is interacting this way with the compressor, but at least it's usable now. It really is a nice effect, that I can finally hear because I'm not distracted by the ticking sound.

Thanks so much for your suggestions!
Regards.

Hey Z-man!
Cool! I'm glad it worked for ya! I think the Spin is just VERY sensitive to what is going in/out/around it, barometric pressure, alignment of Venus, etc. Big Grin

What kinda amp and other pedals are you using? Just curious, you have good taste in gear, it sounds like. Smile

WB,
I play either a Reverend Commando GT with Lollar singles and bridge hb or '62 RI Tele with Anderson pickups into a Fender Vibroking with Weber 10A150, Weber 10F150T and Fane Alnico 10 speakers. Current pedalboard includes the aforementioned Spin Acher, Boss TU-2, LR Baggs Paracoustic DI (great tone shaper and buffer), Barber Tone Press, Boss OC2, Mutron 3, Boss PH1-R, Barber LTD, early Orange Fulldrive 2, J.Everman Fuzzdrive G2, Boss GE-7, TC Electronic Chorus/Flanger, Boss DM3. I'm finally pretty comfortable with the mix of stuff.

How 'bout you?

Hey ZZZ!

With my blues/classic rock band, I normally run a 40 watt Kendrick "The Rig" or a Budda Twimaster head to a PRS 4x12 or a Fender 2x12 cabinet. I've scaled back this set up to be light and portable. My effects are generally a Peavey Valverb (tube reverb and tremelo--1 space rack), an Austone Millennium OD or a Keeley DS-1 Ultra, FoxRox Fuzzfoot, DLS Chorus~Vibe, Ibanez Echomachine, occasionally a Boss Octave, and a Teese Picture wah.

Oops, my cpu crapped out. Anywho, I also recently got hold of an ENGL Ritchie Blackmore 100 head and a Marshall 4x12 that was part of Ted Nugent's backline--rather potent combination to say the least.. Big Grin The ENGL has sooo much gain, it really doesn't need much, but for fun, I run a Lockhart Tone Wizard or a MXR Zakk Wylde od. Guitars--right now--LOTS--82' Les Paul Std w/ Duncan Pickups, 3 Gibson Flying V's, a Zion Powerglide with Barden pickups, 3 Hamer USAs (Goldtop w/ Duncan P-90's, 98' Phantom Custom, and a 92' Archtop Sunburst model), and finally a Yamaha USA Custom Shop that I got from guitar wiz Michael Lee Firkins (He used it on his Hot Licks Instructional video).
