Maybe you should try the new DiMarzio Drop Sonic humbucker that cameout. It's designed for the low-tuned stuff.

The best pup for a Bari is a single coil, IMHO. I have not tried the new D'marzio, maybe it does work. I do know you can buy a plastic plate that incorporates a single coil pup that retro fits on a HB hole. I did this to my Yamaha Drop 6. Once you have the single coil thing going on, it doesn't seem to matter what pup you use, they all sound good.

You probably have the answer. Why is the question so hard?

Intersting....I just bought a custom set of Lollar pickups for my Fender Sub-Sonic baritone which I tune down to A. It's a SSH set, the single coils are actually his standard "tweed" models but the bridge is a custom one he made for me. I had the humbucker slightly underwound which is a first for me. I was finding that with the really low tunings too much output really muddied things up and I wanted clarity. I play with a Matamp full-stack and with a ton of volume and I want a super heavy sound but I don't want incomprehensible mud. The pickups were a bit pricey, $300 for the set but very, very cool sounding. I think I may have found my new pickup-guy.
