Hello everyone!

I recently acquired a Vox Wah Wah and its acting funny. When the wah is on and you rock it up and down it makes a wired noise. It sounds like its making the wah effect with the noise. It does this when u dont play anything and when you do its even louder and is very annoying. I would like sum information on whats going on and how it can be fixed. Any information will be apprecitated.

Keep on Jamming everyone

It sounds like your wah is oscillating during the sweep.

This article talks you through the technology of the wah:

http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/wahpedl/wahped.htm

If you don't want to read through it all scroll down to the bit which starts "Vary Re1 up or down". It's just a simple matter of changing a resistor (it this is indeed your problem).

The symtoms of a worn pot tends to be a 'crackling' sound as you move the treadle. Is this what you're experiencing? Or is it more like a low pitch whine?

Yeah, it's just a worn pot (common problem). Just order a replacement and solder it in.

Once you get the wah open and start loosening the pot you'll see how it all fits together.
Make a note of everything with a pen and paper before you desolder the old pot if you're not that confident.

If you're unfamiliar with soldering there should be plenty of on-line tutorials. In fact, I think there's a good one at Geofex (the home page of the article I linked to).
