My new G&L has a 4-way switch and while it seemed like a cool thing first, I really don't use the 4th pos that much, and am thinking about putting a standard 3-way in.
Any of you guys using a 4 way switch?

I've wondered about the 4 way switches. What combinations does yours get? If it allowed the old style bridge/neck/neck with capacitor plus bridge & neck that would be cool in my opinion. My Tele has only the combinations I mentioned, & I have to balance the switch in between to get the bridge & neck together.

1=Bridge
2=Neck/Bridge Parallel
3=Neck
4=Neck/Bridge Series

The #4 position is cool but it doesn't sound all that different from the #3 position.

I tend to use either a 4 or 5 ... but I have had that JD Tele for a long time. Always using a Strat pup in the neck position, and tend to like to put one in the middle position as well. Got used to the JD wiring so much so it is second nature on a Tele.

I use 4 way fender custom shop switches alot. I love the added series linkage. it's a huge change, as it sounds like a beefed up version of the neck with added cut and thick midrange..and the added volume boost is sweet, too. I set that linkage as click 3 on the switch.

I got a 3 way and it's a Les Paul style toggle switch in my case.

-down bridge [Fender Red Lace Sensor T]
-middle both
-up bridge [DiMarzio HS-1]

I never use the middle position so I'm thinking of using it as an OFF position so I can do the cool ON-OFF switching with either pickup.
