I just blow up my mesa dual recto amp head. Shit.........I was play on my other amp with bogner cab and i switch back to mesa head with the bogner cab. the mesa head blow up. no fire. no smoke. only the blown fuse.

So I bought some fuses to check on it. I remove all powers tube, rectifier tube and all 12ax7. put on standby then i replace the fuse. turn the power on, it still keep to brun up the fuses.

As i remember the fuse burn up very quick. power have not even go though rectifer tubes, other tubes etc......

finally, i get a DMM from my stoage and try to figure out where is the shorts. I try to check the connection in the amp with my dmm. and i can't get any source in the "power transformace ".

is this mean i need a new power transformaer? am i right ?

....if yes, anyone know how to do it ? there is lots of wires in the power trasnformaer?

......anyone know any amp repair tech around orange county in california ?

thanks for help

I'm no guru but if your blowing fuses with no tubes plugged in its probably a bad power transformer. I had the same problem with my Deluxe reverb. Keeping in mind that tube amps have lethal voltages, remove your chassis and see if you detect some unusual odors. Burnt transformers have a distinctive burnt electrical smell.

The same thing happened to me with my Mesa Boogie Lonestar Special. I was playing it one day and smelled an aweful electrical fire smell. I checked the back of the amp and saw a gleaming blue light where my transformer had been on fire! Luckily Mesa Boogie had awesome customer service and directed me to an authorized Mesa amp tech that fixed it under warranty. There were a couple of resistors (i think?) that had burned up too that needed replacing and a blown tube that needed replacing as well. So my suggestion would be to give their customer support a call. They were very friendly and helped me eliminate the problem ASAP. Good luck with the amp!
