It's about time to share this tip to get rid of the ringing in your V1 preamp tube. Lots of players will try to find a "select" expensive tube to stop the ringing but there's an easy way.
connect (solder) a 7 pf 1000 volt silver mica cap between plate and grid of the preamp tube V1A.
That's between pin 1 and 2 or pin 6 and 7 on a 12AX7 tube. take the tube out and solder it directly to the socket terminals, with very short leads.
That's all, it works. I have never found a better method and it's easier than going through a pile of tubes to find one that doesn't ring.
Well actually it's the circuit that makes the tube ring, not the tube itself. surprise. Be sure to use a 1000 volt capacitor, and try not to use ceramic disk, it's too noisy. --mykey

Yes I understand, I bought a PV when I was 17 and that was the last solid state amp I ever bought. Sooner or later they all outgrow them. whoops, I forgot to mention, it's easy to fix that PV tone with a sledge hammer.

What kind of amps and tubes are you using? I have never had this problem unless I had a bad tube.

the higher gain Marshalls, Fenders and most of all mesa boogies. And mesa being a really high gain amp has the worst problem with tubes ringing. Now if you are playing a twin reverb, don't expect that to happen. but if you play a hot rod deluxe, blues deluxe with high gain tubes you can expect that to occur.
now if you change to SINO china 12AX7, (also known as groove tubes 12AX7CH) it has way more gain and crunch than most any other tube BUT it WILL ring in a high gain amp. Not because the tube is bad but because it has much more gain than a normal 12 AX7.
and I would rather use high gain tubes, certainly not your average sovtek.
And please note that I would not play a Mesa Boogie because I think it sucks. I want crunch, not mud.
and anytime someone modifies an amp for higher gain this usually becomes an issue.
Then there is your stock Marshall plexi, when played really damn loud (as it should be) the V1 preamp tube will ring unless you go through a pile of tubes to find one that does not ring. However what you are really doing is looking for a lower gain tube that will not ring.
and I don't want low gain tubes, I want high gain preamp tubes that grind like a chainsaw.
now most lead guitar players would rather use a high gain preamp tube, because it makes a huge difference.
but most players won't spend $2 to buy one because they don't realize what a huge improvement it makes.
I need to stick in the high gain tubes and demonstrate before they "get it".
And I do not use distortion pedals, I use real tube distortion, from the amp, because it makes distortion pedals sound like a joke.
Then there is your seymore duncan amp which has a really big problem with the V1 preamp tube ringing, but as i said that can be cured.
