Hi, I have a 72 Telecaster Custom RI and the volume knob on the bridge PU seems to peak at about 9 and then I have a slight volume drop when its on 10. Can anyone explain why this might be happening? The bridge PU is already not as hot as the neck bucker but this just makes the problem worse. There is a huge volume differnce between when just the neck PU is on and when just the bridge PU is on, (which is basically unusable.)

Have you tried adjusting the pickup height? That will usually account for volume drops. Otherwise, and I'm no expert here, it sounds like you got a shitty pot. I'd be willing to bet that taking it into your local fix it guy would probably clear the whole situation up. The Jap guitars have gotten a lot better over the years, but their wiring/electronics still leave something to be desired. Anyway, that's my two cents worth.

Keep on Rockin' in the free world...

Thanks for the input. Yes I have tried adjusting the pick up but I think your right, its time for a trip to the local repair guy. I tried to even out the P/U output by putting in a Fralin Blues Special but the volume knob problem just seemed to get worse (or more pronounced. Anyways, thanks again....

It should only be out of phase when in the middle position.

The 1st thing you want to determine is if the ground wire on the bridge p/u(the wire soldered to the baseplate) is grounded to the pot.The other wire (hot) should be connected to the switch.Once you've straighten that out the rest is easy.

If the bridge p/u is wired correct and you are still out of phase just reverse the wires on the neck HB.The wire where the hot was will now be ground and the ground will now go to the switch. This is if your HB only has 2 wires. It gets more complicated if it's a splittable HB.

the pot should be replaced and single coil fender pickups are pathetic. Buy some EMG's or duncans if you want consistency.

Tell that to SRV and Hendrix!! Actually EMG's are cool for certain types of sounds but I would never use them on my main guitar.
