My wife has exiled me and all my gear up into my loft where the temps get pretty high in the summer (85-95 degrees daytime) with 20 degree cool off at night. This goes on all summer. Should I pack up the guitars and not keep them up there unless I am playing or is this not such a big deal?

I know humidity is a concern and that stays pretty much a constant as I have monitored that.

Thoughts??

TIA

Ted

If the temp swings that much every day, you may want to keep them in their cases. Or, get a fan to keep the air moving. That may help, a little.

95 degrees isn't too bad. But, is that the actual temp in the room? Or is that the outside temp? The room may get much hotter, as the air is trapped inside.

If you can keep the air circulating through the loft and downstairs, that should help a lot. Maybe a ceiling fan?

Also, a room humidifier can really help to control room temps. I think that 45% is the humidity level that guitar makers like. But, I'm not totally sure of that figure.

SWAIN-

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Felt like and idiot but am alright with that for the sake of the geetars.

I live by the beach and the outside never gets too hot but the air in the loft gets a bit trapped. the 95 degree mark is the extreme so..

Anyway- I think you're right on the with the humidity issue, but that stays pretty constant and despite our proximity to the water it stays pretty dry here.

A fan to keep the air moving will settle alot down. I will install some skylights so I can crack them and keep the hotter air keeps cruisin on out the window.

Thanks-

Laters
