hi,

I just picked up a colorsound wah reissue...I notice a loss of tone when the wah is engaged. like a dip in level...is there a MOD for this or does anybody know what I am talking about??? I thought I read a post on here about this but I can't seem to find it...any info would be great...

thanks. nerve

Is the wah basically similar to a cry baby?
Do you have a schematic?
If it is identical, lowering the 470 ohm resistor on the first transistor to 100 ohms or so increases the gain of the first transistor, making it a bit louder and fatter sounding.
Hope this helps.

I have an original Colorsound Wah which I bought new in 1974. It does not affect the sound the way you're describing. It works as it should.

Did they modifiy the circuit for the re-issue? Maybe...

There were a few Colorsound wahs
Off Q1 (the first transistor) is there a resistor off it's emitter or does the emitter go straight to ground on your pedal?

Sometimes if the level is not unity you could lower the input resistor. Any idea what the value is on your pedal? Usually it's a 68k, I believe, and if you try a 47k that should bring the level up some.

It could also be as simple as a cold solder. Try tapping the parts, with the guitar plugged into the pedal and the pedal plugged into the amp, to see if anything changes sound wise.

Looks like the colorsound is a different beast than the crybaby/vox. It is inductorless. You could post a question at diystompboxes and maybe someone who knows a little more about this circuit could help you.
