Be careful. If you don't know who owns the guitar, they may get pissed. Big Grin

Yes, it'll work with any electric guitar. For starters, go to the neck pickup, and roll off a bunch of volume and high end from the guitar's knobs - seriously. An E-bow can take the top of your head off with volume, so approach it with kid gloves.

Lots of fun with wahs and filters, Blue Box and octave dividers, and tons of delay wash. Can sorta emulate timbres from cello to analog synth. If you plan to record it, compression and limiting go a long way toward taming the very present spikes and peaks. Have fun.

notsopunkstaKT,

Sorry about the rude response from forum "member", Frank Booth. Hopefully, that won't happen again. Feel free to share/ask anything about gear here. It's a pretty respectable place. Usually.

Actually the e-bow can work on an acoustic guitar also, as long as it's steel stringed.

Ae these fairly easy to use ... I mean easy to be musical without it vibrating the strings near it?

It only "vibrates" the string that its "glide" is hovering above.

"Easy to be musical"? - totally depends upon your application(s).

In a loose "jam" situation - no problem, as long as you have time to roll back tone and volume at the instrument (as well as allowing time for, - as you like it -, kicking in whatever time-based ambience effects, and/or filter [wah, whatever], that you desire).

Would I use an E-bow for a consise four or eight bar pop rock solo in the live setting? Certainly not, as there's simply not enough time to set up for it.

For what it's worth, I'm mostly a 'one or two takes' guy in the studio, but my E-bow tracks always always require additional passes. Even when compression/limiting is employed on the way in (as printed), the peaks and spikes are a bit of a challenge in the recording environment. For controlling attack for the ins and outs, E-bow passages benefit greatly from use of a volume pedal.

I often use E-bow for tracking multiple harmonies, sometimes with a glass slide, so I set myself up in advance for a bit of frustration, and a longer day than I'd have preferred, by default; sort of like using a B-bender with a capo... it's okay, I think the results can be well worth the trouble. It's a truly wonderful texture. Give it a ride if you can.
