Hi, I would like to make my ZW-44 true bypass, is there a simple way to do this? I have purchased 5 3PDT stomp switches...I am a beginner and I am on a fixed disability income, I could save up and hire someone to do but I would need to know what to tell him

I don't know if this is very easy to do. The MXR pedals have switches mounted to the circuit board. If you electronic savvy you could figure it out or get someone like keeley or analog man to do it for you.

It would probably be more trouble than it's worth. If you don't hear it "sucking tone" I wouldn't worry about it.
A lot of the MXR pedals have what's called a hardwire bypass which means the switching is mechanical but it still uses a buffer at the front end to 'fix' the signal loading (high impedance) and usually doesn't have an output buffer. That said, if this was something you were going to tackle yourself, I would just go to Build Your Own Clone and make their 250+ pedal. The Zakk Wylde is basically an MXR Distortion + with a few simple component changes from what I understand. Same with the Yngvie pedal. Those component changes and schematics are easily found online. That option would be much easier for you if yer handy with a soldering iron. If you don't start from scratch with a kit you'll have to rewire your switch and bypass the buffer that's in there cutting traces and probably jumpering a few pads and if it's SMD, which I'm not sure about, then it's a real hassle. Good luck! |
