Okay, i have a gibson SG (the "faded" series)- the headstock plus 1 tuner is broken (a fracture where the headstock meets the neck, but not completely broken off)- it would be 689 plus tax to replace the guitar, or 250-300 plus tax to repair. i was wondering if anyone had any advice for this sort of thing.. do repaired headstocks sound the same in terms of resonance and sound quality? is it worth it to replace this in the long run? i have had work done at this shop before, and know from experience that they do quality work, as these are the only people i WOULD trust to do a job like this, so i know that the repair would be done well if i choose to go that route.

i love this guitar and i own many of them, but have never had this problem before. i gig a lot and the guitar would get fairly heavy usage.

please help..
Thanks,
Rob

I haven't had a broken neck myself, but my cousin broke the neck on an old Les Paul and he glued it himself. Playability and sound-wise, you would never have guessed it was ever damaged. Our favorite local shop told him he did a great job on it and it should never give him any trouble.

Take it to a pro if you can. Either way use carpenters glue.

I'd have it fixed...the repaired headstock will be stronger than before.

The neck on my friends 335 was broken in pretty much the same spot. the guy who fixed it did such a job that even if you know where to look for the crack all you see is waht looks like a tiny finger print smudge.. definately worth fixing if you like the guitar..
