I like the idea of parallel compression in the tonepress, and I also like the idea of 2 compressors in one. BUT man which one is for me?! I have tried the BJF PINE GREEN and the TEESE compressor and the KEELEY compressor... wasn't thrilled with them. I want a compress for rock guitar -sustain with a plexi amp and also for chicken pickin' country riff'in.... will one of these do both with great tone?

I use a Keeley 4-knobber at a rehearsal situation, and I use an Analog Man mini bi-comp on my live boards for electric guitar. Regarding whatever these circuits have to do with the ROSS circuit, I'd say that the Analog Man has a stronger mids presentation. I like the Analog Man due to the sheer range of flexibility. If I need more high end or want to ape early Steely Dan lead guitar sounds, I can call on the Squeezer circuit. Combining the two circuits is a bit too saturated for my applications with a real world rhythm section, but the option of cascading the circuits might come in handy for low volume players.
I've limited experience with the Barber Tone Press, but with the clean blend thing engaged, it reminds me of the little green Guyatone micro pedal, with increased fidelity and headroom. For classic rock and country guitar sounds, obviously the MXR Dyna Comp and BOSS CS-2 are staples. If you want that sort of rubbery thing, but with increased output, fidelity, headroom, and options, as well as bypass integrity, go for the Analog Man. ________________ Tone is in the feet. |
