I've always liked a singlecoil sound in neck position. Here's a trick to thin out a humbucker in neckposition: put a capacitor in series with
with the coils. Break the joint of the two coils and put 0,047uF cap in series. This mod is recommended only to those experienced with
the handling of the inwards of a pick up. With a five conductor pick up this can be done in the control cavity, requiring only soldering skills.
For the book cap. value can be altered in the range of 0,047uF to 0,001uF=1000pF.
An easier mod is to put a speedingcap on volume in the range of 220pF to 1200pF.
That is between terminals 3 and 2 onvolume control, terminal 1 being grounded to pot.house

When I get around to fixing up my muddy-sounding Epiphone Les Paul, I plan to rewire it so that it has a master treble and a master bass (instead of one treble for each pickup). The master bass would be wired to short out a .001uf at full clockwise, and at full counter-clockwise, the guitar's signal would be forced through that cap.

HOWEVER, since the first thing I plan to do is replace the cruddy pickups with Bill Lawrence L450's, I may find no need to cut bass in order to achieve clarity! But for anyone with stock, muddy humbuckers in need of a quick fix, this is for you (I think).

I also want to use dpdt push-pull pots to reverse the phase of the pickups (ala Jimmy Page).
