Yeah well this is kind of a stupid question but is it hard to make an amp? a tube that is. I thought about giving it a shot, is it more economical? or is it a just a b*tch and I should buy an amp? Well if it is cheaper are there any good books on this or would you have to consult an expert on such a thing. Does it turn out sounding the way you want it too?

It's a bitch. I built a Torres Prince-Tone Jr. from a kit.
The directions were wrong, in a few places. I kept going back to my friend who had an amp shop. He would give me small bits of help. He wouldn't DO any work, just answer my questions. That was a big help, as I would have taken another year to get it done, on my own.
The amp sounds KILLER! It's 2 x EL-84, about 20 watts. Tube driven reverb, amd tube rectifier. Cool green tolex. Kind of a Blackface sound. There is a pull out mid boost knob. It came with a 10" Mojotone speaker.
If I were to do it again, I would start with something easier. Maybe an old amp chassis, and a Hoffman board kit. I have thought about finding a silverface amp, and gutting it. He, and Torres also have stuff for re building the Fender reissue amps.
Many people take old tube P.A. amps, and make some AWESOME guitar amps. Also, the Epiphone Electar amps are popular. You should check out these links:
