For my money the all around best old school blues man was Freddie King. He played, wrote and sang all with conviction. His music goes straight to my soul, awesome!
Actually now that I think about it, it is a toss up between Freddie and SRV. SRV definitely took blues guitar to a whole new level, this is evident by all of the Ray Vaughabees out there that the public seems to embrace.

My pick is Bugs Henderson. Listen to him and you will know what I'm talking about. www.bugshenderson.com

I've seen him. Hear his recorded stuff. He's consistently really good. The real thing.

There are alot of GREAT blues guitarists out there, but man the guy who is just the baddest and most under-rated: Otis Rush!!! He had some rough years with the bottle, but listen to any of his stuff from the late 50s-early 60s, it's spine-chilling stuff with feral guitar, other-worldly vocals, cool songs...After listening to Otis (and Freddy, different groove but equally awesome) you can hear where Clapton got all his blues shit, especially his vocals...I saw Otis in a Chicago club 3 years ago, and he still rips with intensity
