I got to see Sonny here in Little Rock. He played through a matchless, and a dumble. Mostly using a strat. My friend's co. sponsored the show, and I got to go backstage to his trailer. He was very friendly, and we had a beer, and talked.
If you haven't heard him, you should. Incredible tone, and cutting edge technoque.

For my money, Sonny Landreth is the best slide player around, and has been for some time.

Duane Allman
Lowell George
Sonny Landreth

Don't know of anyone who can crack that starting frontcourt. Maybe Mick Taylor. Ok, Mick Taylor.

Dear Swain,
I HATE YOU!!! Big Grin Big Grin A sincere congrats, you just got to witness one of the best guitar players living on our little planet. Sonny is such an amazing player--it really defies description. If anybody EVER needed to do a video or instruction series of some king, it's him, I'm dumbfounded by his technique...
Bet it was a heck of a show! The new live CD is amazing!

Yeah, the show WAS awesome. He wouldn't let me play the Dumble! The live album is a great representation of what I saw/heard.
If you can get a copy of Austin City Limits of John Hiatt and The Goners, you can see Sonny play his ASS OFF. It's not the latest show they did. It is from about 10 yrs. ago.
The other bands I saw at Riverfest (Little Rock's biggest yearly festival), were B.B.King, Robert Randolph, Black Crowes, and Grease Factor. Grease Factor was the big surprise. I got to the Sonny show early, and Grease Factor was setting up. After the first couple of songs, I realized that THESE GUYS ARE INCREDIBLE! There was some Dead Head type guy taping the show with a DAT, and a couple of nice mics on a tall micstand. I went over and started talking to him, and he told me who they were. Apparently, it was Shane Theriot (Neville Bros. guitarist), Count MButu? (Aquarium Rescue Unit Keys and Vocals), a couple guys from the Allman Bros. Band, and a couple of New Orleans unknown hot-shots. They rocked. Totally unexpected, and so glad I got there early!
The Dead Head Guy said he will make me a copy of the show. Can't wait to hear it again.

Hey Swain,
You didn't by chance have a camera with you did ya???? Big Grin Wouldn't let you play the Dumble--the nerve of some people Big Grin I'd be happy just touching that amp and hoping some of the Mojo/Vibe/Coolness would just rub off on me.

I'll look up Grease Factor for sure--thanks for the cool heads up!

They didn't allow cameras at the festival. And I don't have one of those nifty phones with a camera in them.
If I get the recording, I can send you a copy.

Well, so far the guy won't call me back. I told him of my live recordings. I thought we could trade. I'll try to get him on the phone, tomorrow. I'm REALLY wanting that Sonny/Grease Factor show. I'll keep you posted, Willie.

STILL no return call from the guy with the SONNY tape. I'll call him a 3rd. time, but then I give up! I'd love to have a copy, but I'm not a stalker!
I will try to dupe a DVD of the ACL John Hiatt & The Goners show. Excellent SONNY footage.
