Didn't think so...

What’s wrong with 14 year olds? What’s wrong with people liking the same musicians?
BTW, I’ve heard most of the players you mentioned, which brings me to what I wanted to post:
What about the unsung heroes? There are/have been many amazing players/musicians that we don’t get to know or hear about for various reasons. Some might even be contributors or readers of this forum. Others might live in places where internet access is a bit difficult.
Through another forum, I got to “meet” a truly amazing guitar player: Carmine D’Amico. Not only is he a great player, he also loves sharing his knowledge and helping other musicians in their learning process. I guess that’s why some of us are here; to learn from others and share our experiences. You post might help introduce these musicians to a new generation of guitar players.
Best wishes.

Yeah, I got slammed for dissing Springsteen by that guy. Oh well, arcane influences, didactic posting tone...yep we've got a frustrated musician.

You are entitled to your opinion, and some people might not agree, but we all have different tastes and that’s what keeps it interesting.
BTW, Springsteen is one of the reasons I picked up a guitar. I still like to play The River and Thunder Road from time to time. He may or may not be a great guitar player (whatever that means), but I like what he does. Smile

Most of everyone listed is great, but one that hasn't been mentioned is Lenny Breau. If I had to pick the greatest guitar player ever that'd be it. In fact, I think if you forced almost any great jazz guitarist to pick the best guitar player that'd be him.
If you have never heard him, You must give him a listen, Alan Holdworth, from another planet, this guy is from another plane of existance entirely. Soul into sound.

Not much to add, just that Joey Santiago of the Pixies should be in somebody's list, since he inspired Kurt Cobain.

... could be just due to the german way of communicating, though...

... besides, anyone who is reading this all must be into music, don't you think? And therefore probably a musician, and therefore probably frustrated, in some way...

I like most of the guitarists mentioned, apart from Eric Johnson, Billy Corgan, Dimebag and a few others, but there is one (maybe the most underrated guitarist together with Danny Gatton) who was mentioned only by JanHowell and Edwinvontrippenhof. It's Rory Gallagher. I know you in the US have many great guitar players, but just sit back and take a listen to Rory on IRISH TOUR to hear him playing his Soul out, with just a Guitar and an amp. Maybe he was the "original" SRV??

I kind of agree with that other dude, this is a pointless debate. There are loads and loads and loads of great guitarists, and most of them will never be heard by me or you.

Just to drop a name though, try Joop Van Nimwegen of Finch. Finch released 3 albums in the mid-seventies...Start with the third and work your way back (if you can find any of them...).
