ok, here goes (in no particular order)

Velvet Underground-White Light, White Heat : In a word-attitude. This one made me honestly believe that there were no rules in rock music.

Brian Eno-On Land:This one speaks about timbre and nuances in tone. Eno may well be a pedant and a bore, but his attention to what music can be is groundbreaking.

Robert Fripp- Exposure: I bought this as teenager when it came out, and it made me see that angry music was not solely the property of the punks. And that great guitarists didn't need to play 32nd note triplets @ 165 bpm to be scary ("breathless", "disengaged")

Muddy Waters-Folk Singer: What's to say ? A voice sent from the angels coupled with beautiful songs and great guitar playing. When he sings "hear my phone ringin' /sounds like a long distance call/ I picked up my receiver/ the party said "there's another mule kicking in your stall", muddy nails the essence of the blues...

JHE-Are You Experienced ?-'nuff said

Beatles: Rubber Soul-GOD ! I just love this one. Again, great songs, great chord sequences...it's just fucking scary what lurked in their minds at this point.

so many got left out (never mind the..., marquee moon, the lamb, etc...)...it sure brings back the memories, no ?

In the beginning
Metallica-And justice for All
SRV-In Step
Deep Purple- Perfect Strangers
Arc Angels- Arc Angels
Cry of Love- Brother
AC/DC- Highway to Hell(you have to admit that Angus had THE tone!)
Those were the ones I listened to and learned thru my teens that shaped the way I play. I wish I could still play like I did when I was 17 [Mad]

More recently I've been learning from, and listening to:
Anything from:
Doyle Bramhall II
Ian Moore
Warren Haynes
Derek Trucks(even though I can't play slide, I still steal licks)
Larry McCray.

Ian Moore is a Killer soulful Blues player, Bramhall is heavily tied with one of the greatest blusey rocking bands indigenous, dereck trucks is affiliated with one of the legends, Allman Bros. do they sound like metal to you? if so I suggest you go try and get a new ear transplant.
